Disney and Lucasfilm‘s Solo: A Star Wars Story has launched across the galaxy with the studio reporting a weekend estimated total of $83.3 million for the release domestically, factoring in the Memorial Day holiday Disney estimates have the film’s domestic weekend gross at $101 million across the four days. For comparison, the three other Disney/Lucasfilm features, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, have all opened to $247.9 million, $155 million, and $220 million respectively at the domestic box office. Solo also had a lower opening than 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, which debuted to $108.4 million. Internationally the film has brought in an estimated $65 million for the weekend, making its three day global total $148 million.

Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Joonas Suotamo. Woody Harrelson Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Ron Howard direct the film.

20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool 2 sliced its way into second place domestically, falling 65% to a total of $43.3 million for the three day weekend and a four day estimated total of $54.5 million. Domestically the film has now brought in $219.2 million, putting it on pace to pass Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine movie Logan ($226 million) by the middle of the week. The sequel still has a ways to go to catch-up to the first film however, which remains the second-highest R-rated film domestically at $363 million. Internationally, Deadpool 2 brought in another $57 million across 27 markets, making its international total $279.7 million and putting its worldwide gross at $498.9 million after the Memorial Day holiday.

The David Leitch-directed film stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War, continues to put up impressive numbers despite being released a full month prior. The film managed to bring in $16.5 million for the the weekend and has an estimated 4-day weekend total of $20.1 million. Domestically the film’s total now sits at $621.7 million putting it in prime position to pass the first Avengers movie from 2012 in just a matter of days, but Marvel’s Black Panther still has a comfortable lead on Infinity War domestically, standing tall at $698.5 million. Internationally the film added another $32.5 million putting its global total at $1.9 billion, making it the highest grossing MCU film by nearly $400 million.

Paramount’s comedy Book Club, a perfect kind of counter-programming to the superheroes and space scoundrels in theaters, brought in $9.45 million and fell just 30% from its previous weekend. The movie has an estimated 4-day total of $12 million and now sits at a cumulative domestic total of $34.2 million. The film stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson with Andy Garcia and Don Johnson. Book Club was written and directed by Bill Holderman.

New Line Cinema‘s comedy Life of the Party dropped just 33% in its weekend to weekend take, bringing in another $5.1 million across the weekend for a domestic total of $35.6 million. The film was directed by Ben Falcone and stars Melissa McCarthy, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen, Matt Walsh, Molly Gordon, Stephen Root, and Jacki Weaver.
